Causes of Aligner Discoloration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you begin SureSmile treatment, your dentist will likely tell you that the only thing you should consume with your trays in your mouth is room temperature or cold water. That\u2019s because most of the foods and beverages you enjoy can discolor them. Thus, if you aren\u2019t taking them out to eat and drink, be sure to do so to ensure they stay clear and discreet for as long as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other reasons your aligners may become tinted is from using colored mouthwashes or retainer soaks. These can sometimes absorb into the plastic, giving it a different hue. To prevent this, be sure to use only clear products on your trays. If you use a vibrant mouthwash, rinse your mouth well before putting your aligners back in so they don\u2019t leave discoloration deposits behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, even if you use the right oral hygiene products and never nosh with your aligners on, they can still become dingy if you don\u2019t keep them consistently clean. Be sure to brush them at least once a day and rinse them off when you remove them from your mouth to eat or drink. This will prevent bacteria, saliva, and plaque from building up and discoloring them. They can be easily cleaned with mild, clear hand soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush, and be sure to rinse them well before putting them back on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
